Film opened in Japan on August 29

On Friday, MediaLink Entertainment announced that they plan to release the live-action movie adaptation of Jun Mayuzuki's Kowloon Generic Romance manga in Taiwan in October.

On July 13th in New York City, during the Japan Cuts festival, a movie was shown.

The film opened in theaters in Japan on August 29.

In the live-action film, Reiko Kujirai is played by Riho Yoshikawa, who is blind. Meanwhile, Hajime Kudō is portrayed by Kōshi Mizukami, who is also known for his role as Nina in My Love. Additionally, other actors are part of the cast as well.

Yen Press is releasing the manga in English and describes the story:

Welcome to Kowloon Walled City: a dystopian townscape where the people are brimming with nostalgia, and where the past, present, and future converge. Amid the hidden emotions and extraordinary daily lives of the men and women working in its confines, a tale of romance begins to unfold for real estate agent Reiko Kujirai―one that feels as familiar as Kowloon itself…

In November 2019, Mayuzuki started publishing their manga series in Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump magazine. As of April 17, Shueisha has released the 11th volume of the compiled books. On October 28, Yen Press will release the 10th volume of the series.

The anime version of the manga started airing on April 5th in Japan. Crunchyroll made it available for streaming alongside its English dub as it was being broadcasted.

Mayuzuki's earlier work was After the Rain, which debuted in Monthly Big Comic Spirits from Shogakukan in 2014 before moving to Weekly Big Comic Spirits in early 2016. It featured new chapters every other week until its conclusion. ( link ) In April 2018, Shogakukan released the tenth and final volume of the manga. Vertical then acquired the rights and compiled all ten volumes into five omnibus editions which they released in April 2018.


In January 2018, the animated series adaptation of the After the Rain manga was launched on Fuji TV's Noitamina block. It consisted of twelve episodes. This show was only available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video both in Japan and internationally. Additionally, a live-action film based on the manga was released in Japan in May 2018.
